NGOHL 3rd Annual CHEO Tournament

Welcome to the 3rd Annual NGOHL Tournament for CHEO

The NGOHL (North Grenville Old-timers Hockey League) was created in the summer of 2005 to provide members of the North Grenville and surrounding community with a place to play old-timers recreational hockey. The NGOHL now consist of 10 teams (summer and winter leagues) and represents over 200 players and we have played in excess of 500 games since our inception.

On the 19th and 20th of December 2008, the NGOHL will be holding its 3rd Annual NGOHL Tournament for CHEO. The NGOHL will be donating all profits from the tournament to the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario (CHEO).

My family and I have personally benefited from having world class hospital such as CHEO in our community. Our daughter Annie was diagnosed with Cancer at age four. Annie received 3 years of treatment for leukemia and now has been off treatment for over two years.

Over the last four years I have learned that there are quite a few families in the North Grenville Community and Ottawa area that have also benefited from CHEO. Through our visits to CHEO I have met several families from Northern Ontario and surrounding areas who only wish they had such a world class facility in such close proximity.

After two year the NGOHL Tournament for CHEO has raised just shy of $11,000.00. Every year a cheque is presented to CHEO during the annual CHEO telethon by members and sponsors of the tournament.

This year the NGOHL is hoping to exceeded previous year''s totals.

If you are interested in sponsoring or helping with the tournament please send an e-mail to NGOHL_CHEO_Tournament@SportTeams.NET or call
Jeff @ (613)258-5263

Sponsorship opportunities can be found by selecting the link on the left menu. We are open to suggestions.

Entertainment

Besides the obvious excellent old-time hockey this year the NGOHL has been lucky enough to get Chris McCann as our live entertainment for Saturday evening.

Chris McCann is an Ottawa-born singer / songwriter and has two albums to her credit. Her rich, throaty voice, engaging personality and wry sense of humor make her a favorite of the Ottawa Valley music scene.

Chris also participated in the "The Christmas in the Valley" project which produced a number of albums of which all proceeds went to CHEO. The likes of Wayne Rostadt, Colleen Peterson, Charlie Major and The Family Brown also performed holiday favorites.

Chris is also the writer of the official" Ottawa Song" which won great acclaim back in 1982. The song for Ottawa contest attracted some of the best in the business but Chris prevailed. The song is used in schools and tourisms’ ads to promote the city.

Besides making a living performing, Chris also devotes a great portion of her time to fund raising in the Ottawa area. The cause closest to her heart is that of the "Canadian Leukemia Studies Group" due in part by the fact that the disease took the life of her mother Joan. The search for a cure, or at the least to ensure that victims of Leukemia can have a better quality of life and more tolerant treatments. is their goal.

Chris left hometown Vanier and toured Ontario, Quebec and the Maritimes as a member of the country band Bourbon Hill. More recently, Chris toured Europe with The Armed Forces Show Tour. She was both host and performer for the variety shows that featured an eighteen member cast.

Chris has recently been inducted into the Ottawa Valley Country Music Hall of Fame in a ceremony at Ottawa''s Centrepointe Theatre earlier this year.

Tournament Agenda

Once again this year the NGOHL has teamed up with Broadway Bar and Grill to provide a place for us to rest and relax between games.

Saturday at 11:00 am the NGOHL and Broadway Bar & Grill will be hosting the Conference Hall at the North Grenville Municipal Centre. Food and beverages will be available along with Labatt’s products.

Prizes will be handed out from about 7:30 pm till they are gone.

Silent Auction items will be available throughout the tournament and will be on display all day Saturday in the Conference Hall. Silent Auction closes at approximately 9:00 pm.

West Jet flight for two will be awarded at approximately 9:30 pm just before the Live entertainment is to begin.

Live entertainment will begin around 9:00 pm and will last until approximately 12:30 am.
